Giving Project: Recap of Black Friday and Giving Tuesday
You all might be wondering about what exactly this whole Black Friday thing was and how it went, as well as how the Giving Tuesday event fared. Well then, my friends, you are in for a treat! So here is the insider’s (my own to be precise) scoop of how the Black Friday event went, and also I will share about Giving Tuesday. All mixed together in one big happy blog of goodness. Yup, that’s what I am officially naming this blog.
So Black Friday. Everyone knows that it is that crazy day where everyone goes a little bit insane as they rush their local shopping malls and stores. Some people actually do everything they can to avoid that day or being anywhere near a store on that day. Well, our CaseCrown team decided to be bold and courageous. We decided to go where no CaseCrown team had gone before… to the mall on Black Friday. Yes, the thought sent a little shiver down our spine as well. No, don’t cry for us. At least not until you hear the end of the story, then the choice to cry or not to cry is completely yours.
So there we are, walking in to the Irvine Spectrum after a 1:30 AM meeting at our office and a quick drive over to the Spectrum. We walk in and split up into two teams and start talking to people and handing out bags. We really had no idea what the response would be or how the morning would go, but we were ready for anything. So after talking to people, handing out bags, riding the Carousel (twice) and the Ferris Wheel, and interviewing people about what giving meant to them, we were well content with our visit to the Spectrum. There was a lot of energy there as the hustle and bustle of energetic and slightly sleep deprived people flowed from store to store.
Next, after a breakfast at Denny’s, which was one of the only places open at the time, we traveled across Orange County and in to L.A. to visit the Grove, our second destination for it’s opening at 8 A.M. With the excitement of the midnight madness of Black Friday over, we were met with a sleepy and somewhat empty shopping mall. We were able to talk to a few people, but we decided to tryout our next destination after not too long. So on to 3rd Street Promenade we went! Located in Santa Monica, this place was much more alive as we arrived at 10 AM. With shoppers going to and fro, as well as street performers doing what they do best, this was a great place to promote giving. We talked with people, laughed with people, gave out bags and even had a street performer sing a song for us! It was a really fun morning in Santa Monica.
After our time at Santa Monica, we grabbed a well deserved lunch in L.A. and began our trek home. All around it was a very unique and interesting experience. We enjoyed the people we were able to meet and the conversations we were able to have as we promoted the spirit of giving this holiday season.
So how did Giving Tuesday go, you might ask? Well, on Black Friday we told everyone about Giving Tuesday and how they could be involved. We had many people stop right then and there and tweet or instagram about Giving Tuesday. It was really cool! All that to say, we had a lot of people participate in Giving Tuesday through sharing about it through various social media channels.
At the end of the day we were able to raise $2,000 based off of all of you wonderful supporters and your sharing of CaseCrown and Giving Tuesday. That money was donated to the American Red Cross and their Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort. Woohoo! Way to go everyone! To say that we couldn’t have done it without you is an understatement. So many, many thanks to you guys for supporting us and Giving Tuesday! Till next time…
